This fly is one of about a dozen flies in Hawai`i that do not have wings. They are very rare and live in the leaf litter of rainforests and high elevation bogs. The flightless cranefly pictured here is only found on the windswept tops of highest mountains in the Ko‘olau range on O‘ahu.
