there are four species of caddislfies that occur in the Hawaiian Islands, all of them aliens. This species is the most common of the four and can cause the reduction of populations or even extinction of native stream invertebrates by outcompeting them for food resources. The immatures are normally found underwater in protective cases of sticks and stones they glue together.
