85. Family DRYOMYZIDAE by Brian R. Pitkin & Neal L. Evenhuis

This is a small family of about 15 species in 3 genera found mainly in the Holarctic region. Only 1 widespread species is recorded from the Australasian/Oceanian Regions. Hennig (1973) placed Baeoptera in this family. It is treated in this catalog under Coelopidae.

Very little is known about the habits or life history of Dryomyzidae. The larvae are apparently saprophagous, developing in mushrooms and dung. The adults are usually found in humid, shady situations among low vegetation.
